Ingress, video games

Games!

Image result for call of dutyInteractive fiction isn't just for the weird computer nerds anymore, we now call them by a more common name, video games! Everyone plays them, from jocks to girls to yes the common average nerd(sorry if you are one but you know you are and you should be proud of it!) every one seems to be intrigued with the fancy graphics or the amazing story or just the endorphin that are released form completing the game. Lets take a look at some games and the number of people that play them, Call of Duty is one of the largest games out there in america, in Advanced Warfare there were yuuuge numbers. This link shows all the calculated numbers captured by the computer and some of them are amazing like the 127 million people playing. Thats crazy! Other games such as League of Legends

Image result for league of legendshas an average of 3 million concurrent users per month! Working off of this we can amuse that video games have taken the world by storm, and who can blame us its like reading a book watching a movie and going on an adventure all in the safety of your own home. Along with these games we now have games that are way more story based( yes even more so than Skyrim ) Telltale games has brought us many cool games, including a interactive Walking Dead novel, The Wolf Among Us and Game of Thrones, all of these are interactive text's ...in a way you have a visual and move your character and make quick time decisions all the while your decisions affect how the story will end up. It is really

fun and cool to play because instead of just shooting you're trying to think which way you want it to end up and deciding which way is the most moral. (or moral depending on your character stature) This allows the user a more immersive game play making it so the user is invested into the game where he is the one who decides how the story will unfold. These "visual novels" I believe will become even larger when Virtual Reality becomes big. Imagine you're inside a movie and you get to act out what happens and how it happens. Sort of like Ready Player One, or eXistenZ. Along with all these video games for consoles and computers we also are getting some games that are augmented reality, games such as Ingress. This game is played on your phone it uses google maps to integrate your position with a virtual game world where you have to capture portals that are emitting energies and you can be either Enlightened or Resistance. You actually have to walk around as it gathers your global position, and then once you are near a portal you can capture it or attack an enemy portal. It is a mmo so you can play with your friends too. This is definitively cool technology and other games like it are coming soon, like pokemon go. This game look incredible can't wait for it to come out, its pretty much a Pokemon game but in the real world just using your phone. All these types of games originated from the text adventures of Zork and Advent, where it pretty much was just nerds who played them. Now however everyone enjoys the distractions that video games supply even some people have taken them and made them into a lifestyle weather it is designing or it is playing them competitively. Weather your a video game bro like me or you think they destroy brain cells they are here to stay and will be enjoyed for generations to come until we refined what a video game is and what isn't.
